SUMMARY:Workshop: Getting Started in Test Automation
DESCRIPTION:The discipline of software QA is increasingly becoming more technical\, often requiring testers to use (and know how to use) test automation. For experienced QAs who haven’t worked with test automation before\, or new QAs who are trying to break into the field\, this can sometimes pose a difficult challenge: where do you start\, if you lack opportunities for training or experience? What resources exist out there that one can use to learn about automation technologies and practices? This workshop will focus on how you can get started in test automation on your own\, using publicly available tools and information. We’ll provide an overview of what the most popular open-source technologies are for different types of test automation\, how you can use those tools\, and how you can go about practicing your automation skills on your own.So make sure to bring your computers as well as your questions around test automation. \nPresentersMore about our presenters:Curtis Matthews (linkedin.com/in/curtis-matthews-9441a014) is Software Engineering Manager for Accuity\, Inc. in Kennesaw\, GA\, where he leads a team specializing in developing test automation tools and frameworks\, build & cloud deployment automation and CI/CD for Accuity’s flagship anti-money-laundering (AML) software platform. Curtis has 20 years of experience in software QA management for companies such as Emerson\, Home Depot\, and Triton Digital. His specialty and his passion is helping growing companies with their unique challenges for scaling QA capabilities\, especially by effectively applying automation tools and processes.Carlton Jones (https://www.linkedin.com/in/carltonwjones/) is a Senior Quality Test Engineer for Accuity\, Inc. in Kennesaw\, GA\, where he continually drives for higher quality software through automation and QA best practices. Carlton has 12 years of QA experience\, with 10 of those years focused on building automation tools and frameworks\, leading SDET and QA automation focused teams\, and maintaining high quality software leveraging automation at companies such as Sage Software\, Evestment\, and Cloud 9 Software. Having worked at large established companies as well as startups and family run businesses\, he’s helped QA teams and individuals transition from ‘traditional QA’ into automation focused QA teams and engineers.Time & LocationThe workshop will take place Wednesday\, January 29\, 2020\, at the Mansour Conference Center\, 995 Roswell Street\, NE\, Suite 100\, Marietta\, GA 30060 (just slightly west of the Big Chicken). Pizza\, soft drinks\, and networking begin at 6:00 p.m. and the workshop will begin at 7 pm.Special thanks to Richard Minerich\, CTO of Accuity\, Inc. for providing funding for the venue\, food\, and drinks for this event. Also special thanks to Shelly Van Blarcum for her work in finding and securing the venue for this event.

SUMMARY:All Things Agile Gwinnett (ATAG)
DESCRIPTION:The January meetup will be hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College and our partner ITEC professors. We would like to expose the students to an Agile meetup with business professionals and create a real world learning opportunity for them. \nWe will use the Lean Coffee (http://leancoffee.org/) format for our topics discussion. Lean Coffee is a structured\, but agenda-less meeting. Participants will gather\, build an agenda (backlog of topics)\, and begin the discussion. Conversations are directed and productive because the agenda for the meeting is democratically generated. \nWe will close the meetup with a “Rapid Retrospective” (5 minutes) covering what was beneficial to the group and what could be enhanced in future ATAG meetups. \nThe total event time is scheduled for ~1.5 hrs. \nPlease arrive a few minutes early to get parked and make your way into the building. Visitor parking is available in the B parking lot or 3000 parking lot. Both lots are a short 5 minute walk to the W building. There may be limited spaces available by the W building also. \nWe look forward to seeing you there! \nWalt and Derwin

SUMMARY:Agile Lunch Bunch @TBD
DESCRIPTION:Agenda begins with optional Lightning Talk “Openers” before moving into Lean Coffee format. If you want to propose a Lightning Talk\, feel go with the standard Agile Alliance conference format of 3 min slideless\, 5 slides in 5 min\, or 7 min Pecha Kucha (20 slides\, 20 sec). \nThen we’ll shift to an adapted Lean Coffee format (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhG-A-kRPAU) so come load our backlog with your interests\, questions\, and ideas. We’ve had great feedback on how the ensuing dialogue will really get a feel for the “pulse” of the Atlanta Agile community. Consistently strong engagement and interactions have sparked our learning. \nLunch will be provided! Please keep the input on how to best optimize and evolve the dialogue! \nSee you all there! \nRob Phillips \n(678) 557-9522

SUMMARY:Business Agility Atlanta October meetup
DESCRIPTION:The Business Agility Atlanta meetup is an open\, interactive and collaborative discussion of Business Agility approaches across the enterprise including HR\, Marketing\, Finance\, Support\, Sales\, Recruiting\, Operations\, etc. Come join the conversation at one of our monthly meetups\, share your experiences and collaborate with others actively pursuing ways to be more responsive and effective in all parts of the enterprise. \nOur October meetup will be led by Bob Woods from MATRIX. Bob will discuss how successful agility requires organizations to change their talent acquisition & retention strategies. A great topic that we all need to embrace! \nOverview: Wait! Stop! Don’t hire that highly talented person with the great resume\, numerous certifications and years of valuable experience! Believe it or not\, that person could undermine your cultural agility. \nOne of the biggest mistakes companies make in trying to scale the mountain we call organizational cultural change is bringing in the wrong people to help support that change. Too often we remain stuck in old hiring practices based on keyword searches\, years of experience or quantity of certificates. While valuable to know\, this does not mean\, though\, that they will fit what you are trying to do within the organization. You may even be creating a cancerous situation that is causing leadership to question whether or not Agile methods were the right way to go at all! \nRobert Woods\, Sr Consultant at MATRIX\, will be outlining the absolutely critical adjustments required to how we look for people\, hire and why they are so impactful to the success of any cultural support. These adjustments impact areas ranging from Product Development to Change Management\, Business and IT alignment\, Team Building\, Leadership and Facilitation on up to Executive buy-in. Learn how to watch\, engage\, hire and retain the people you need before its too late! \nAudience: Team leads\, managers\, directors and above throughout the organization. Come join the discussion and let’s talk about ways to get the right people on-board in our own organizations to increase our responsiveness and effectiveness. \nParking is free at the venue. Food and mingle starts at 5:30\, discussion starts at 6:00. \nNote: The October meetup at the new MATRIX headquarters (400 Perimeter Terrace\, Suite 300\, Atlanta\, GA 30346).

DESCRIPTION:The October meetup agenda will start off with lunch sponsored by Genuent. \nPlease arrive a few minutes early because attendees will need to sign in at the front desk. Parking is available in front of the building and behind the building. SUMMARY:Game without Thrones Workshop - An overview of xScale
DESCRIPTION:Space is limited to the first 60 attendees\, so please only sign up if you’re committed to come. We expect to have a waiting list. \nDue to over an overwhelming wait list the first time\, Agile ATL is thrilled to host an XSCALE Game Without Thrones event. GWOT is one of the most exciting and innovative Agile practice patterns being taught today. It shows how to de-scale decision making while maintaining cross-team alignment — but without resorting to command and control – by instead using practices originating with the Iroquois Nations. \nJeremy Pullen\, John Badgley and Rob (Gordo) Gordick will lead an immersive hands-on de-scaling Lego workshop with no masters\, no owners\, no hierarchies\, and no command and control. This is pure self-organization across multiple teams and streams driven directly by business constraints and quantitative metrics. \n= = = = = = = = = = = = =About XSCALE= = = = = = = = = = = = =XSCALE Alliance is the Linux of the agile world\, an open learning ecosystem of prominent independent coaches and consultancies evolving an open-content alternative to the “Agile Industrial Complex”. This alternative takes the form of a principled pattern language\, not a framework\, for self-directing portfolios of self-managing streams of self-organizing teams – a “de-scaled” organization in which all feedback loops are tight\, all meetings are small\, and all decision-making is face-to-face. \nhttp://www.xscalealliance.org \n= = = = = = = = = = = = =Agenda= = = = = = = = = = = = =6:00pm to 6:30pm – Pizza and Networking6:30pm to 8:30 pm – Game Without Thrones8:30pm to 9:00pm – Debrief \n= = = = = = = = = = = = =About your facilitators= = = = = = = = = = = = = \nJeremy Pullen loves the intersection of people\, process\, and technology. In addition to his 23+ years building large scale software systems\, he is also an XSCALE Coach and an Accredited Kanban Trainer. Jeremy is a principal consultant with Polodis\, a DevSecOps transformation consulting firm in Atlanta\, GA. You can follow him on Twitter @jeremypullen. \nJohn Badgley is a Business Agility Lead\, Enterprise and Portfolio Coach\, XSCALE Lead\, Creator of G5: Enabling Real Change for People and Companies\, Personal and Career Agility Coach\, and creator of Agile Fight Club. You can learn more about him at http://www.kudzooo.com/portfolio.htm.

\nPlease arrive a few minutes early because attendees will need to sign in at the front desk. Parking is available in front of the building and behind the building. Please park on the M3 side since the other side of the lot is owned by SAGE. \nWe look forward to seeing you there! \nWalt and Derwin

SUMMARY:Game without Thrones Workshop - An overview of xScale
DESCRIPTION:For the first time in Atlanta\, we are thrilled to host an XSCALE Game Without Thrones event. GWOT is one of the most exciting and innovative Agile practice patterns being taught today. It shows how to de-scale decision making while maintaining cross-team alignment — but without resorting to command and control – by instead using practices originating with the Iroquois Nations. \nJeremy Pullen and John Badgley will lead an immersive hands-on de-scaling Lego workshop with no masters\, no owners\, no hierarchies\, and no command and control. This is pure self-organization across multiple teams and streams driven directly by business constraints and quantitative metrics. \nSpace is limited to the first 20 attendees\, so please only sign up if you’re committed to come. We expect to have a waiting list.
